The Leaf
From the Heart of the Amazon

Guayusa (Ilex guayusa) is a holly tree native to the Ecuadorian Amazon, cultivated for centuries by the Kichwa people of the Napo Province. HOJA sources exclusively from this region — single-origin, single-purpose.

Every leaf is hand-picked by 60 indigenous Kichwa families who have tended these trees for generations. Their knowledge, passed down through oral tradition, is what makes HOJA possible.

What's Inside
The Science of the Leaf
Caffeine
Almost as Much as Coffee

A single cup of HOJA contains approximately 80mg of natural caffeine — comparable to a standard espresso. The difference is how it's delivered: gradually, smoothly, and without the spike that leads to a crash.

L-Theanine
Calm, Focused Energy

L-Theanine is an amino acid that works in harmony with caffeine to promote relaxed alertness. It takes the edge off stimulation — giving you the focus of caffeine without the anxiety or jitteriness.

Theobromine
Sustained Uplift

Found naturally in cacao and guayusa, theobromine is a gentle, long-lasting stimulant that improves mood and blood flow. It's part of why guayusa energy feels different — broader and more sustained than coffee.

Antioxidants
Exceptionally Rich in Antioxidants

Guayusa is exceptionally rich in antioxidants — among the highest levels found in any brewed leaf. These compounds help protect cells from oxidative stress, supporting long-term wellbeing with every cup.

Why it Matters
Growing Tea,
Protecting the Amazon

Most agricultural products come at a cost to the land. Guayusa is different. It grows naturally within the existing forest canopy — alongside native trees, birds, and biodiversity — meaning the Amazon stays standing.

Monoculture farming strips the land of diversity and depletes soil over time. By sourcing guayusa grown in forest gardens, HOJA actively supports an alternative model — one where farming and conservation exist together.

01
No Monocultures

Guayusa is grown alongside native trees in forest gardens — protecting biodiversity and preventing soil degradation.

02
Indigenous Livelihoods

60 Kichwa families earn fair income from their land without clearing it. Preservation becomes economically viable.

03
Forest-Positive

Every box sold supports a model of farming that keeps the Amazon rainforest standing, rather than replacing it.
